Savannah 4 Palestine
With the right to free speech in America, public demonstrations and protests circulate the news at an elevated degree when tensions related to a current event are high. Often charged by sensationalism, the most common form of coverage highlights the most extreme of demonstrations and the consequences in which they result. In relation to the current events of Israel, Hamas, and Palestine, rallies, marches, encampments, and calls for action are increasing at an accelerated rate in the United States. With that increase of action, an increase of organization and planning occurs, but it is not often documented.
In Savannah, Georgia, the members of a local Pro-Palestinian organization are responsible for nearly all related actions within the city. However, the organization, Savannah 4 Palestine, is not directed towards public protests alone. The members work actively to bring awareness to Palestine-related history, share current news, organize public and private events, educate, and contribute to the local community. This body of work documents the many efforts made by these organizers in a behind-the-scenes and public effort of participating in their respective movement while considering the influences of photojournalism in the media and its reflection of the current state of society.
